Geothermal systems design

Eneren uses the Ground Response Test to test the thermal efficiency of the soil and ensure the optimization of the plant at a minimum cost of installation and management.

The design phase of a geothermal air conditioning system requires a pre-design that verifies the feasibility of the application. The chain that constitutes this phase has a level of detail that can vary according to the energy capacity implied. For this reason Eneren it is able to carry out the GRT and to perform geological and hydrological surveys.

The GRT (ground thermal response test) is in fact a measurement method that allows a special device to detect the equivalent average thermal conductivity of the ground, in which a pilot borehole heat exchanger has been installed to be later used for a geothermal system.

The methods of execution and processing of data resulting from the tests are reported in the ASHRAE legislation, and allow to obtain the necessary values required to simulate the dynamic operation, through dedicated software, of an air-conditioning system depending on the building energy needs. Through the GRT and dynamics simulations it will then be possible to size the geothermal field and heat pump needed.

Once the BHEs of the geothermal field are dimensioned, other finite element software are used by Eneren to verify the designed system sustainability, from environmental and hydrogeological points of view. This step serves to verify that the change in the temperature of the subsoil remains confined in time and does not reduce the system efficiency. It can be checked whether the hydrogeological structure of the subsurface volume affected by the heat exchange is subject or not to unwanted variations.





Accurate energy and geological-environmental studies allow to evaluate the feasibility, dimensions and convenience of air conditioning systems.

A multidisciplinary approach ranges from a preliminary assessment of the energy requirements of the building to the capacity of thermal exchange with the ground and to the possible productivity of solar thermal and photovoltaic panels.

Particular attention is paid to the choice of the geothermal heat exchangers, heat pumps, and all support materials. The used components, the quality of which is guaranteed by leading companies, are tailor made to the client’s request and guarantee durability and maintenance of the system performance over time.

Eneren gets its strength from a constant renewal of its knowledge. Thanks to the constant collaboration with the University of Padua, and specifically the departments of Industrial Engineering and Geosciences, Eneren can access to the latest research and publications on the topics of interest. The use of state-of-the-art technological resources such as dynamic simulation software for the analysis of the behavior of the field of geothermal heat pump, and calculation software for the thermo-technical design of buildings, allow Eneren to develop complete and turnkey projects.
