The Dutch National Property Office has always been at the forefront of sustainability, and the renovation of a historic office building in The Hague (Den Haag) is no exception.
Built between 1918 and 1920, this 13,500 m² national monument has been given a new lease of life through careful restoration and sustainable innovation – avoiding demolition and rebuilding. The ultimate goal: transforming this century-old structure into an efficient, modern office space for the Dutch Government.
Eneren & Renergy: a collaborative effort for High-Efficiency Solutions
In close partnership with an installation consultant and the installer, Eneren and our Dutch partner Renergy played a key role in the successful completion of this ambitious project. Our shared values with the Dutch National Property Office ensured that sustainability and efficiency were at the heart of every decision we made. Together, we devised an installation concept that met the specific requirements of the building, while preserving its historical integrity.
The renovation incorporated a 4-pipe system, designed by the installation consultant, which enables different sections of the building to receive either heating or cooling, as required, simultaneously.
The solution comprised 4-pipe multipurpose high-efficiency heat pumps, 4-pipe fan coils and radiators, to provide optimal climate control guaranteeing comfort for occupants while maintaining the highest sustainability standards.
The partners fostered a positive and productive relationship with both the installation consultant and the installer, facilitating seamless collaboration throughout the project.
Overcoming challenges: Sound Sensitivity and Limited Space
As with any project, this one presented a number of challenges. One of the primary concerns was sound management, which was addressed by selecting the quietest available heat pump model, the ELA324PQ, equipped with silent EC fans to ensure minimal noise disruption. This was a vital consideration in maintaining a comfortable working environment in a governmental setting.
Furthermore, the limited space available presented a logistical challenge. The area in which the new equipment was installed previously held an old dry cooler, thereby creating a particularly tight space. Thanks to the flexibility of the installation consultant and the installer, along with the adaptability of Eneren and Renergy, we were able to successfully overcome these spatial limitations while maintaining both quality and performance standards.
Creating a sustainable future for an Iconic structure
The Dutch Government sought a solution that would be both highly efficient and sustainable, with rapid deployment. Eneren and Renergy’s multipurpose 4-pipe solution, which features the highest SCOP rating, proved to be the ideal choice for our client, offering the perfect blend of efficiency, noise control and respect for the historical value of this remarkable building.
Our unwavering commitment to providing honest, top-quality guidance and solutions was the primary factor in making us the chosen supplier for this project. Our team demonstrated an impressive ability to respond rapidly and adapt to the unique challenges of the structure, while working effectively in collaboration with the installer and consultant. This resulted in an installation that serves as a model for sustainable renovation.
In the context of heightened environmental awareness, the transformation of an existing structure into a new and sustainable asset is an illustration of the potential for shared values ad collaborative effort.
